March 2024 Newsletter

Dear fellow accompanists and Accompanists’ Guild members,

I hope everyone had a great start to 2024 and has much to look forward to in the rest of this year.

As the President of AGM, I would like to thank everyone for their support and for giving me the
opportunity to serve in this important role – even though I have now resigned due to a new job
outside Queensland. One of our Committee members has also resigned at the beginning of this
year. Therefore, I sincerely urge and encourage any of our members to send us a self-nomination
to take over these roles.

In our last meeting on 17 March, 2024, we discussed the following points:

  • Our newest member is William Mackson and our current membership stands at 76
  • We need 2 new committee members and a President for our Guild immediately
  • Updates on competition and prizes: UQ awards, Con awards
  • Social events: thanks to 10 members who responded positively to the idea of having a piano 4-
hand Playing Day. Details are to be announced.
  • AGCP: zoom meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month for discussions. Any member
who would like to join may send us a request.
  • Juanita’s presentation on Christine Boughen
  • QVCF sponsorship
  • Goondiwindi is in need of a piano teacher/ accompanist to work in a tree change environment to
assist in music lessons and exams. Any interested members are welcome.
  • Future meeting date has been scheduled on 19/5 at 5:30 pm.

Thank you for your attention and we would like to hear responses from some of you regarding any
of the matters listed above.

I would like to conclude by wishing you all a peaceful Easter and a wonderful year of piano
accompanying!

Yours sincerely,
Laura Tiong
President of AGQ
